Garden Before & After: The Concrete Patio Transformation of 2015

Last year, the patio experienced it's first Summer in my possession. While I was seriously excited about getting it to be a luscious garden, I didn't have the energy or know how. I hadn't researched any, and I was grieving the loss of my dear mother. So, I put a few things out and tried my best with limited resources.

I grew a measly tomato plant that only gave me about 10 tiny tomatoes. I tried a few other veggies with very limited success. But, as a first time gardener, I was proud of my efforts. I ate a few strawberries off my new plant, was able to keep a rosebush in bloom, and had a few color bowls from the local garden center placed around for decor.

It was the gateway to my newfound passion. I cannot get enough of gardening, as you'll see in this blog. This year I'm gung ho for gardening and it has been the funnest hobby of mine in existence. My husband and I have dubbed our patio garden "Project Narnia". I constantly scour the internet for more plant ideas and more information. Everything I grow is in pots (also known as container gardening), so I'm constantly looking for ideas on how to make my sweltering concrete slab be a lush garden in Summertime.

When the heat hits the high 90's my patio gets up to 115! It's in full sun, which is great for gardening, but terrible for concrete heat absorption. It's been an adventure to say the least, and I love how it's turned out. I'll get into what all the plants are that I'm growing, and show a lot more closeup photos later. For now, check out this before and after. It's pretty amazing what six months can do!
