Some Killer Advice on Living a Creative Life from Elizabeth Gilbert

Friday, January 08, 2016

Elizabeth Gilbert, author of Eat Pray Love, discusses how to live authentically and creatively in this interview with Marie Forleo.  She is chock full of gems of wisdom. My husband heard it playing the other day and came in the room to listen to the last half with me. He even asked me to email it to him afterward. He's pretty critical of advice, so if he loves it, you totally will.

My favorite talking points?

+ Fear and how it's a great tool for our lives.
+ Shit sandwiches and how we all have a version of shit sandwich we love to eat because it comes with something we love. (If that's not a killer metaphor about life and picking your battles than I don't know what is.)

The shit sandwich I like to eat regularly is that I can't make money, at the moment, off of the things I love to do, so I have to work for other people to earn the money to provide what I need to be able to do what I love. That's totally fine for me. I'm thankful for their willingness to hire me and pay me. They provide and sustain my life!

So, with out any more of my ramblings, let's get to the video. It is a bit lengthy, so if you have things to do, I recommend letting it play in the background while you get some work done. You'll end up being grateful you did. Also, let me know what your favorite parts were.

+++So, what did you think of the video? Please share your thoughts below! I'd also love to hear which shit sandwich you're willing to eat!

    1. Right? I thought it was fabulous. Another of my favorites is when she talks about updating the bumper stickers because they're not realistic.
